Students for a Democratic Society Demand Immediate Release of Tampa 4; Drop All Charges Now

Students for a Democratic Society nationally calls on the University of South Florida Police Department and the Hillsborough County Sheriff to immediately release the 4 SDS members brutalized and arrested on March 6th.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Tampa, FL.. (March 6th, 2023) Earlier today Students for a Democratic Society at the University of South Florida held a protest near their University President’s office to demand that USF Administration take immediate action to Increase Black Enrollment. In response, the University of South Florida Police Department and Hillsborough County Sheriff attacked protesters, brutalizing and arresting 4 members of USF SDS without even making clear what they were being charged with and where they would be taken.

SDS members nationally have already called the USF PD and Hillsborough County Sheriff's Offices and received no updates on where our fellow members are being held, and both offices have several times refused even to pick up the phone.

Students for a Democratic Society condemns this brutal display by USF PD and the Hillsborough County Sheriff and are calling for an emergency national day of action for Tuesday, March 7th, in which our chapters across the country will join to demand the immediate release of the Tampa 4 and that any and all charges leveled against them be dropped!

Free the Tampa 4! Drop the Charges!

Protesting is Not a Crime!
